Crain’s Detroit Business Selected Presbyterian Villages of Michigan as the Best-Managed Nonprofit in 2016.

PVM received the honor “for tackling the complexity of meshing an affordable senior community with increased access to health care and related services for seniors in the surrounding neighborhood and collaborating at high levels to do it...” The Edward N. and Della L. Thome Rivertown Neighborhood, near Detroit’s east riverfront, was the driving force behind this award due to innovation and challenges which were met along the way by PVM and its partners.

Chelsea-based United Methodist Retirement Communities has collaborated as co-general partner of the community and managing partner of the assisted living at The Thome Rivertown Neighborhood. Henry Ford Health System is a partner in PACE Southeast Michigan, the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly, which has a location on the campus. PACE is a nationally-recognized way of delivering services which allows seniors to remain as independent as possible while accessing quality health care. PACE Southeast Michigan is the largest program of its kind in Michigan.

Over the past eight years, the first two phases of the campus became a $46 million project demanding over 20 different sources of funding to meet capital costs. And more is on the way with the opening of two Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Green Houses®. The Thome Rivertown Neighborhood shows promise as a national model, an anchor of economic development in Detroit and a way of life deserving of the seniors who reside and are engaged in the neighborhood.

Third party agreements


Delta Manor

Detroit

Located in Detroit, Delta Manor offers 99 subsidized, one-bedroom, independent-living, senior apartments, for ages 62+. The dramatic 7-story apartment building sits on a 2.5-acre campus adjacent to the Lafayette Park neighborhood and near the Detroit Eastern Market. The community is minutes away from the shopping, cultural and entertainment offerings of downtown and midtown Detroit. PVM now provides property management for Delta Manor, which is a mission of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. The mission of the Detroit Alumnae Chapter is to be an agent of positive change and to make a difference in the community. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is the largest African-American women’s organization.

Lakeshore Senior Living

St. Clair Shores

In June, 2016 Lakeshore Senior Living, LLC and PVM announced their signing of a Management Agreement for the new Lakeshore Senior Living community. Lakeshore includes 120 independent living apartment homes offering numerous amenities and services, as well as accommodations for individuals seeking licensed memory support. This multi-million dollar development is located on the west side of Jefferson Avenue north of 11 Mile Road directly across from Lake St. Clair on the site of the former St. Gertrude High School and Catholic Church.

PVM served as a consultant on marketing and leasing during construction and continues to provide property management to Lakeshore Senior Living, LLC, which opened in Fall, 2017. Lakeshore Senior Living features 140 market-rate units for Independent Living and Memory Care for ages 55+. It is ideal for seniors who desire top-tier services while maintaining independence. Features include spacious one- and two-bedroom apartments, a dining room and 3rd-floor pub with scenic views of the lake, and recreational activities.

Mike Parks, a member with Lakeshore Senior Living, LLC, stated “We are very excited to be developing a high quality senior project in St. Clair Shores and we would like to thank the City of St. Clair Shores and community at large for their incredible support and help in making this project possible”. Lynn Street Manor

Onaway

The Senior Citizens Housing of Onaway, Inc. and Presbyterian Villages of Michigan (PVM) announced the signing of a Management Agreement for Lynn Street Manor located in Onaway effective August 1, 2018. Lynn Street Manor is owned and governed by Senior Citizens Housing of Onaway, Inc., a non-profit organization.

Lynn Street Manor provides senior housing in an appealing environment to enhance the quality of life for its residents. This 60 unit affordable senior housing community is located at 4255 South Lynn Street in Onaway and operates under the guidelines of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. It was established in 1984 and has provided consistent quality living to seniors in the greater northeastern Michigan region.

Sandra Grulke, Board Chair of Lynn Street Manor, stated: “PVM has an extensive background in managing senior housing. Their experience and reputation will be an asset for Lynn Street Manor going forward.” Bill Ball, Board Chair of PVM stated: “We look forward to working together to provide a quality living environment and amenities for residents, family members, staff and the surrounding community.”


McFarlan Villages

Flint

Three buildings under the McFarlan banner in Flint, Michigan serve the needs of more than 300 individuals with housing and care. Presbyterian Villages now provides marketing, leasing and property management for the McFarlan Home and Court Street Village, which are located adjacent to Flint’s Cultural Center.

The McFarlan Home was based on the vision of Mrs. Mary McFarlan Whaley. Her will specified that upon her death a trust would be created “for the purpose of providing and maintaining a home for elderly ladies,” and called The McFarlan Home in memory of her parents. The building has 29 market-rate units for women 60+, with Independent and Assisted Living.

Court Street Village has 256 apartments in two buildings on the spacious, tree-lined campus. There are market rate and subsidized, one- and two-bedroom apartments for ages 55+. The development supports a healthy and active senior lifestyle including maintenance-free living, social opportunities, community activities, with features and services including an on-site coordinator.

Erica Thrash-Sall said “I am delighted to serve as McFarlan’s first Executive Director. With McFarlan’s dedicated board and guidance from PVM, we are well positioned to advance senior care services in the Flint area”.

The Village of University Meadows

Detroit

The Village of University Meadows, one of Presbyterian Villages of Michigan’s senior living communities is a partnership with Develop Detroit. Located on Detroit’s west side, this apartment complex features 53 units (1 and 2 bedrooms) on Trumbull Ave. (between Canfield and Forest). The Village of University Meadows was made possible through funding from U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development that provides government subsidized housing. If seniors are 62 years of age or older and meet the specified income limits, their rent is based on 30% of their adjusted gross annual income. Services and programs are tailored to provide the very best in senior living. PVM is so proud to be partnering with Develop Detroit bringing affordable housing for seniors in Detroit at The Village of University Meadows.

Last September, Develop Detroit, in a partnership agreement with Presbyterian Villages of Michigan, took control of University Meadows, a senior apartment complex located on Trumbull Ave. (between Canfield and Forest) on the city’s west side, just west of the John C. Lodge Expressway.

Vista Grande Villa

Jackson

Vista Grande Villa (VGV) and Presbyterian Villages of Michigan (PVM) announced the signing of a Management Agreement for Vista Grande Villa in Jackson effective February 1, 2018. VGV opened in 1972 and operates as a non-profit, locally sponsored life plan retirement community. It is the only life plan retirement community in the area and has a comprehensive range of accommodations, services, programs and care available, currently serving over 300 residents. VGV’s continuing care/lifecare agreements provide a unique opportunity for consumers in that it guarantees care for a lifetime while remaining on the same campus. VGV also provides short stay skilled nursing and rehabilitation care for individuals recovering from various medical conditions.

Ron Markowski, VGV Board Chair, stated: “We are pleased to announce this management agreement which aligns the shared values and missions of these two respected organizations.” Roger Myers, president & CEO of PVM, said: “PVM is dedicated to preserving the fine traditions and services of VGV and its commitment to the surrounding community. We look forward to assisting Vista Grande Villa with maintaining its value to the Jackson area well into the future.”
