A New Way to Age
Michigan’s First Green Houses on the PVM Redford Campus
Presbyterian Villages of Michigan is excited to announce the construction of two Green Houses on the Senior Living Campus in Redford, MI. The concept of a Green House is the latest innovation in long term care and encompasses the ideals of autonomy, dignity, and choice for older adults.
Green Houses are designed specifically for the frailest of seniors, who would traditionally reside in a conventional nursing home. A Green House is a 7,000 square foot ranch-type home and provides ten private rooms and bathrooms surrounding a large living area and kitchen. Meals are cooked in the home and residents are served family-style at a large dining room table.
Direct care providers, referred to as “Shabaz” work as a self- managed team on a daily basis with the residents. The resident’s laundry, personal care needs, and cooked meals are all provided by the “Shabaz.” Residents have the freedom to make their own decisions about their daily schedule, and are free to eat and sleep on their own time.
Skilled nurses and doctors visit the residents as needed for treatment and therapy. Private pay, Medicare, and Medicaid insurance are all acceptable forms of payment to obtain residence at a Green House.
